KALAMAZOO, MI — County commissioners have joined their city counterparts in supporting a proclamation in support of undocumented Michigan residents seeking eligibility for driver’s licenses.
Members of the Kalamazoo chapter of the national organization Movimiento Cosecha presented the board with a proclamation in both English and Spanish during the Tuesday, Aug. 20, meeting.
Local allies from the group spoke at public comment in support of undocumented residents. Victoria Marcetti, a resident of the Vine neighborhood, urged the board to support the measure because not having identification can often lead to detention and deportation for immigrants.
