Immigrant rights activists to kick off week of action with Drive Michigan Forward event

MICHIGAN - On Monday, the Drive Michigan Forward coalition will kick off a Week of Action to advocate for restoring driver’s licenses for all, regardless of immigration status.

According to officials, the group and their supporters will urge Michigan House Speaker, Jason Wentworth, and Chair of the House Committee on Rules and Competitiveness, Jim Lilly, to reschedule the hearing for the Drive SAFE (Safety, Access, Freedom, Economy) Bills – H.B. 4835 and H.B. 4836 – and an accompanying vote to move the bills forward.

Officials say the Week of Action will begin with a live stream on Drive Michigan Forward’s Facebook page. On theme with Valentine's Day, the coalition is using the hashtag #LicensesForLovedOnes - to remember that we are fighting for dignity, care, and love for every single one of us, including all of our family, friends, and community members who have been impacted by driver’s licenses.
